Know Your Rights

FIRST-TIME VOTERS IN PRECINCTS MUST SHOW IDENTIFICATION (ID)
VOTERS HAVE A RIGHT TO ASSISTANCE WHEN VOTING. You have the right to assistance at the polling place, including foreign language or literacy assistance. You may select any person to assist you except your employer, union representative, or the Judge of Elections. Voters need not be designated in the poll book as “assistance permitted” to receive help. If you ask for assistance, you will be asked to sign an Assistance Declaration at the precinct, unless already designated. Voters also have the right to refuse assistance.
YOU ONLY NEED TO SHOW ID THE FIRST TIME YOU VOTE.
A VOTER WHOSE NAME IS NOT IN THE POLLBOOK CAN STILL VOTE. If your name is not in the poll book you can still vote. The local officials should place a call to the County Board of Elections to confirm your registration. The Board can tell you if and where you are registered, and direct you where to go. If the Board cannot find your name, or if you can’t go to another precinct, you have the right to a provisional ballot. Voting in the wrong precinct may result in your ballot being only partially counted. Voting in the wrong county will lead to your ballot being rejected in full. Be careful when filling out the provisional ballot. Voting by regular ballot is heavily preferred, and provisional ballots should be the last resort. You can find out if your provisional ballot was counted by visiting pavoterservices.state.pa.us or by calling toll-free at 1-877-868-3772.
In PA you may vote if you are convicted of a felony and has been released from prison.
In PA you may vote using an absentee ballot if you are in prison and convicted of a misdemeanor.
